Our Story
I-AAN is a membership organization that empowers non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and individuals focused on empowering women and girls, alleviating poverty, promoting good governance, and social accountability in Africa, to foster inclusive, sustainable growth and development in the region.
In 2014, I-AAN launched the Good Governance and Social Accountability Summit under President Obama's African Leadership Summit. The Summit brought together Governments from various African nations and C Suit CEOs to discuss Good Governance and Social Accountability in Africa. The summit was very successful, such that the World Bank Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) partnered with I-AAN.
As partners with the GPSA, we began advocating for good governance and social accountability in Africa. Holding governments accountable for good governance and the CEOs accountable for empowering communities where they do business. We organized events training NGOs focused on these areas on citizen engagement, best practices, and challenges
In addition to advocating for good governance and social accountability, I-AAN empowered NGOs, focused on empowering women and girls, and poverty alleviation for sustainable development through training, capacity building, and sourcing for resources globally to better help them enhance and scale up their activities.
